Some of the best watercolour pencils I've tried
I already had a handful of Albrecht Durer watercolour pencils and really wanted to expand my collection within a reasonably tight budget. This studio set is a nice selection of 36 colours (complete with paintbrush), and as they're watercolour, the mixing ability of the colours really does give enough variety for most 'amateur' colourists and coloured pencil 'artists' ('artists' meaning actual artists and those of us who just like to dabble!).
The leads are nice and chunky, so you get a feeling of value for money, but this doesn't lend itself well to really fiddly details as well as some narrower leaded pencils. However, personally, I don't tend to bother with the most fiddly stuff when using watercolour pencils, so this is not necessarily a problem. However, the colour lay down is excellent; these are softer than Derwent Artists/Studio/Watercolour ranges but not as soft as Derwent Coloursoft/Inktense ranges. And the solubility of the pigment is excellent; gorgeous watercolour effect drawings/paintings are far easier to achieve with these than by using cheap/unbranded pencils.
The box didn't seem as robust/chunky/high quality as I expected, and it doesn't stand up the way some pen/pencil containers are designed to (e.g. many Staedtler products are available in desktop boxes, where the lid flips over to create a stand). This is not an issue for me, as I got the set for a bargain price, but it is a consideration if you're thinking of buying this set and think you may be getting a free-standing box.
The other aspect of the fact that there are 2 layers of 18 pencils, which didn't occur to me at the time of purchase, is that if you take more than 1 pencil out from the bottom layer at a time, the neat layout will collapse (the layout and the hexagonal shape of the pencils themselves enables everything to stay in place if just 1 pencil is removed). Personally, if I hadn't got such a good deal on this set, I would have preferred to have all 36 visible in 1 layer in a tin set.
Despite the niggly negative comments I've made above, I really would recommend all of the Faber Castell artists ranges, such as Albrecht Durer watercolour pencils, as the pencils themselves are high quality and this set is a lovely collection of colours that I will be very happy 'doodling' with over the next few months/years.

Lovely soft blendable artist quality colour pencils
Coloursoft are Derwent's softest colour pencil range, and yes they are definitely a very soft and therefore very blendable colour pencil. This does mean that in order to eliminate the small white patches of paper that show through, you do need to gradually build up the colour in layers, but that's the best way to get good coverage with any pencil. It does also mean that they are going to need sharpening more often than harder pencils, but in my opinion, I'd rather have a soft pencil that blends well than a hard pencil that doesn't lay down colour easily.
The colours themselves are very vibrant, and can really bring a colouring page or drawing to life. To get good coverage of a fainter layer of colour, you may want to use a blending tool to spread the colour a little more evenly, due to the white patch issue mentioned above. I use Derwent's colourless blending pencil on my Derwent, Faber Castell and Staedtler pencils, and it works very well on all of them.
I would recommend the Coloursoft pencils above Derwent's Artist and Studio range, which I found a bit too hard (and also, many colours are not suitable for vegans in those ranges, so I've stopped using them), but it's worth trying a variety of different pencils, as I mostly prefer Faber Castell's Polychromos range, but I find myself switching between Coloursoft and Polychromos for different colouring projects. I haven't tried Derwent's new Procolour range yet to compare Coloursoft with those.
These are definitely good quality pencils, and you have to expect to pay a bit more for high quality, and I did select 'yes' for good value, although this does depend a bit on how much you pay for a set - any set that works out at £1.50 or less per pencil, I would consider is reasonable value for money.
Overall, definitely worth trying if you enjoy colouring or drawing with coloured pencils.

Smooth writing pen that's very good value for money
This pen is surprisingly good value for the price that you pay. It is a robust metal pen which takes international standard cartridges and converters. I've successfully used the Schmidt converter with Diamine and Waterman ink in this pen. The ink flows well and the nib is smooth. The lid posts well, but if you prefer a shorter or lighter weight pen, it is a good length without the lid posted.
