Bought to fill in some back issues
These books that accompany the annual competition are a nicely printed record of the finalists' entries as you would expect from the NPG.
is the content compelling? That comes down to personal taste and over the years that I've been going, either as a guest or paying punter, I've been very aware that being a judge must be a tricky job. Some years have not been to my taste (trying to resist saying cliched and uninteresting here) others have had some gems. One years the winner then took a picture of Olivia Coleman, shown the next year obviously, and for me that blew all the entries so far out of the water they'd be dry when they next landed.
If you're someone who likes to look through a succession of catalogue books then this has to be in your bookcase. If not, then flick the pictures and see whether or not this years considered august collection is to your taste or not.
Simples.

An oldie but goodie
Martin Evening - most photographers 'go to' author for the major editing packages and someone who brings out a new book with each update to these packages.
If you are the sort who learns by doing, on a project for example, then the Adobe series of Classroom In A Book may be better suited (speaking as one who also likes these) but the APFP books are a great reference.
I picked this up as someone who, in 2016, still uses CS4 as I cannot justify the cost of the upgrade so for what I paid for this book (including the disk) it was a no-brainer.
PS. Software costs - there is now at least one challenger to Adobe's throne - take a look at Affinity photo. Whilst the books that have been written all seem to be in German (come on someone in an English speaking country) there are lots of videos online.

OK if you don't expect too much
2 of 7 found this helpful Bought an X Pro 1 and needed a walk around lens without a huge price tag attached.
The camera style appealed to me and Fuji seem to care more for their photographers than other makers in this range of cameras. Plus I wanted something that felt 'older school' and would be suitable for conversion to Infrared in due course.
As a regular Nikon user - D4s and the pro lens range - I steeled myself for a step down in image quality and sharpness and was not surprised. Then again this cost 1/4 of the price of my cheapest Nikon lens so I can't really complain - and an adaptor puts these within reach and use if I am that miffed.
It's a lens to use whilst I figure out how i want to use the camera so I've no real complaints.
One surprising result, used the camera / lens combo recently in a video project and it did an excellent job.
