Does what it says it does
You can install batteries but unclear why if you are just using it to play tapes onto your PC through the USB port as that suffices.
I suppose with batteries and the provided earbuds you could use it as a Sony Walkman, but that's not why I bought it.
It does have an old version of Audacity provided on a disc, but you can download the latest version for free from the internet
Converting audio tape to MP3 format works, but does require manual intervention with Audacity, it is not a fully automated process
Once I have converted all my tapes to MP3 I don't suppose I'll have any further use for it, so it's the right price for a job like that.
