spine tingler/ horror
This is one of james herberts greatest books. The story kicks off straight away and makes you never want to put it down. I read this book 22 years ago when i was at see as a young man and couldnt wait to start reading the next installement domain. This is the middle book of a trilogy of rat thrillers. each one as nail biting as the next. Lair centres on epping forest with the few rats to eacape thier extinction in the previous book the rats. It wastes no time in setting the scene and has you gripped from the very beginning to the very end. From the rats venturing out of thier comfort zone in the forest to gorge on the human flesh, a taste they have yearned for for many years. Once thier bloodlust has been quenched there is no stopping them in there search for more human flesh. james doesnt mess his words when he is describing the detail and visciousness of the rats. the true horror and gore is so easy to visualise. this is a truly fantastic and terrifying installment of the rats trilogy. a must for any horror fans.
