A true classic
8 of 8 found this helpful I first watched Heimat when it was broadcast in the 1980's and I was so moved by it that I cried at the end. When I found out that there had since been two other Heimat series, I was keen to track down the original and see if it still carried the same emotion for me. Having just watched Heimat on DVD, I can conifrm that it does. It is a little slice of history, not at the level of kings or policiticans, but the history of real people.
The photography, the acting, indeed the entire production, remain stunning, even after all this time.
Heimat is a true classic and deserves to be re-shown to a new generation.
