Does what it should very well, some VMWare ESXi compatibility challenges.
1 of 1 found this helpful Works well in a VMWare ESXi server for local RAID storage, BUT... Even though it's in the supported hardware list, you have to go through a difficult process to install a version of the aacraid driver into ESXi to get it to work. The drivers included with ESXi (up to 6.7U3) do not recognize this card, and you can't install the package to a live machine. The only way I was able to do it was to download a new driver for ESXi 6.0 (this worked on 6.7U3, just make sure you have the correct one for your card's firmware revision) and inject it into an ESXi 6.7U3 install ISO image. Then I had to make a bootable USB out of that image, then I had to shut down the server, re-boot into the installer image, and go through the process to install the upgrade over the old image. It worked even though it was the same ESXi version. After that, the card was recognized and usable as normal. I was upgrading my RAID from a 5000-series controller, so I also had to re-add the datastores and re-signature them all, then re-add all of the VMs. A very lengthy process that required a lot of searching through different places for different tasks.
That said: All the problems I had were VMWare related and due to the fact that I was upgrading in place. The card itself does what it should for a good value. If you were to start with a fresh install, just adding the driver to your ESXi install image would do the trick and this would work well for you.
