Good Solution for K-cup and "manual" brewing...
1 of 1 found this helpful I tried the smaller Keurig machine and it worked great as long as I used the K-cups. But in my household we also wanted the device that fits in the machine that lets you use your own ground coffee. That just didn't make the coffee strong enough because it simply didn't seem to hold enough grounds to do so. After trying it out for a week or so I took it back. Not worth the $100 bucks it cost as far as I was concerned.
I then saw this FlexBrew, which has a larger single-serve capacity, and I find it works considerably better. The filter basket to enable use of your own coffee grounds is included and it holds more ground coffee, so it made the coffee stronger. I still find that the K-cups make a little better cup of coffee with this machine, but the manual brewing worked far better than the Keurig I had. And this machine can accommodate a thermo mug or tall cup which the small Keurig cannot. The FlexBrew also has a "bold" setting that slows down the brewing a bit so as to help extract more coffee from the grounds. Oh, and the price was considerably less, too.

Moen cartridge puller really helps!
I have owned apartment buildings for about 20 years and when rehabbing them I used Moen faucets and shower valves, primarily because they usually worked well and I only wanted to have to deal with one type of cartridge, regardless of whether I had to replace a shower or sink faucet cartridge.
But a couple of times I simply couldn't get the old cartridge out and was even afraid of damaging the sink or faucet when trying. I felt kind of ignorant once I realized that there was actually a tool to help remove the old cartridge. I bought this one after acquiring a property from the 1970's that had all Moen cartridges, which were mostly original barely able to move. They all needed replacement badly and there was a ton of mineral buildup and crud holding the cartridges in place, so I knew they'd be bear to remove.
It takes a little playing around to get the tool to attach to the stem of the old cartridge, but once it's firmly screwed in, I was able to gently but firmly extract the old cartridges without damaging the valve, chrome trim, or ripping the sink out of the counter top, etc. And of course once the new cartridges were installed the valves work like they're new again. (Now I just have to do something about the Harvest Gold sinks... Sigh.)
Just be sure to get the right tool. This one is for the older Moen cartridges. If you have a posi-temp, you need a different version of the cartridge puller tool.

Great solution for second home...
I live in Chicago and have a rural weekend home about 80 miles away which I keep minimally heated in the winter. Friends recommended a freeze dialer but I don't have a landline so that wouldn't work. I do have broadband service however, so the Honeywell Lyric was a great solution. It was relatively easy to set up and I put it in the basement to keep tabs on the temperature, as well as to detect a water leak, should the water heater blow or something else cause a flood. This has provided me peace of mind, especially during periods where I can't get out there for several weeks.
I also love that there is no monthly monitoring fee or service that I have to subscribe to, as I'm not looking for any more monthly bills to pay.
The only enhancement I would like to see is if it would be possible to take the temperature "on demand" instead of at the predetermined once, twice or three times per day that the system currently supports. But as it is, this device enables me to check on things if we get a cold snap and alert me to a significant drop such that I could probably get out there and address any problem before the house would freeze and create a real nightmare for me.
