WHAT JUST HAPPENED?
Well, having worked in film for over 25 years, this film [Hollywood-based scenario] is more than a view. I would say to anyone - Watch this. Exceptional throughout. Regards to all interested. I give the "thumbs up."

Argentine film is truly magnificent
Exceptional film from Argentina. There is no wonder it won an Oscar. Truly worth watching. Again, exceptional. *****

Monitor Audio have changed. These speakers are not performer. Build is good

Firstly, I am no expert on loudspeaker reviews. It is, after all, purely subjective. However, the sound engineer's position is one of objectivity (ultimately).
I was a proud owner of the brilliant (infinite baffle) Monitor Audio R552s for 30 years. But one of my LF/MF drivers failed - could not find a replacement. So my comparison is only between Infinite baffle design vs. Bass-ported design (from the Monitor Audio perspective).
Well, on first hearing (these speakers were used - so "run-in") was one of total misunderstanding. OK they, apparently work from 42Hz-30KHz, but there is something rather "bloated" - muddy even. The middle frequencies are good, but don't try to listen to orchested music here. Anyway, it seems to me they are really design for 'Home Theatre' reinforcement only - and, at that, as probably not just a MAIN role but possibly 'satellites'.
In closing, these are very well constructed passive loudspeakers, but I have my reservations. The Lower end is just to "clumsy" - over fulfilled (front ported design?). The HF is okay, not 'harsh' at any time - but what is happening with the 'crossover' here? I question that. The mid range seems stable and fairly decent. But I have to say, this breed of Monitor Audios disappoint. Firstly, they do not promote "closed" or "infinite" baffle design anymore. This kind of design is much more serious - and better. Whatever your music, film theatre or musical taste.
Not sure how to finally conclude here. They are interesting speakers. But not worth the money I paid for them (80.00 GBP, used). Be aware. Then again, you can always speculate.
