Far too heavy and poor locking mechanism.
Firstly this item took over two weeks to arrive. Even making allowances for The Virus, that’s too long.
More importantly they have two serious faults.
1) they are very heavy - too heavy for comfortable use over several minutes.
I’m a 12.5 man, reasonably fit, and I found these shears to be far too heavy. Fully extended they were unwieldy because of the weight.
2) the locking mechanism for the handle, which rotates to open or lock, repeatedly comes undone, both in use and when carrying. Just not well designed.
On the same occasion that I bought these shears I also bought a pair of Darlac edging shears and a pair of ARS hedge shears, both extending and lightweight. Both of these are infinitely superior to the Spear & Jackson pair. They both weigh much less and both have working locking mechanisms.

Brutal!
This saw packs a real punch with an 18v 5amp battery.
It made quick work of a 6” tree trunk.
The ability to fix the blade in 4 different positions is very useful.
After about 15 mins work it had used one light (of three) on the battery.
Feels very solid and chunky. Compact too, and without cable or petrol tank it’s very manoeuvrable.
The flip-up lever for changing the blade is a bit low tech and slightly fiddly.
Only real gripe is that the safety button is small and easily dislodged. I’d have preferred something that required a bit more of a deliberate effort.
The day after using this saw my arms felt like jelly. Beware, this is no toy but a serious bit of kit that kicks like a mule.
I guess you could do some serious harm if you tried to insert the blade tip first into wood.
Made in USA which makes a refreshing change from China.

Excellent shears
These are very good lightweight shears. They are light enough for extended use. Very sharp. Simple and effective locking mechanism.
Reasonable price too.
