A major recording of a brilliant classic film score
This is the first time that the complete Dimitri Tiomkin film score for 'Duel In the Sun' has been available.
It includes a 'Prelude' which played before the main film in the original roadshow. Also the 'Overture' which played when the lights went down. All the main music scores are contained on two discs. The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus under the leadership of conductor by Nic Raine excel themselves and this is truly a magnificent recording. The accompanying film booklet sets the film in context giving details of events as portrayed in each track.

A Great Adventure film of its era.
An excellent cast bring this amazing story to life. Spencer Tracy is excellent as Henry Stanley the reporter from the 'New York Herald' who is sent by the editor to Africa in search of Doctor Livingstone to find if he was still alive or to make certain of his death. After many stirring adventures he finally meets the Doctor played by Cedric Hardwicke. On his return to England his report is challenged by Lord Tyce superbly played by Charles Coburn at a meeting of the Royal Geographical Society. Following the reading of a dramatic message suddenly brought to the meeting they learn the truth and Stanley's report is vindicated. He later returned to Africa and continued to explore unknown regions and left his name on several landmarks including Stanley Falls and Stanleyville.
