Brand New Canon PIXMA iX6520 Digital Photo Inkjet Printer (4895B002)

I recommend this printer

This is my second ix6520. The first one lasted four years, and though I would have preferred it last longer, it worked well right up until the day it wouldn't power on any more. (Previous printers got cantankerous and became a maintenance nightmare.) The top requirement I have is edge-to-edge printing on up to 11" x 17" paper for dummies, large photos, and portfolio pieces. Settings can be tweaked to get edge-to-edge output on plain paper and envelopes, as well as to boost ink output so type looks rich and dark on heavy uncoated stationery. I switched from Canon to Linkyo inks a while ago to save money, and the printer handles them well. I haven't tried other brands and so can't say if they work as well. I have used the printer with Mac OS X up to 10.7 and Windows XP and 7. I don't use any of the optional utilities, but some of them do seem as if they could be useful. Canon Creative Park is a great bonus. I have made some of their amazing popups and paper crafts (making my fingers feel arthritic in the process, but it's worth it). This printer is basic—no wireless or Ethernet, no fax or scanner—but for me that means less hassle, less radiation, greater security, and no need for replacement if some other component fails.
