Apt
Written with sound scholarship but in an easily accessible style. The author's enthusiasm for the subject is infectious. He also pays attention to some lesser known poets, particularly women, definitely worthy of their place in his history.

It is what it is.
It is a music score, so some things to be said about another kind of book do not apply. It is, however clearly presented, and, designed for choral singing, the words and music notation are large enough to read easily in that setting. The introduction to this particular edition is useful. And the actual work, the Bach St John Passion, is among the most wonderful experiences in the world for those who enjoy Bach.
