I guess it depends what you need
I actually used this the other way round plugging a set of headphones into the female jack. I had two problems. The first was the fit. The sound only worked if the jack wasn't inserted fully. The second was a low hissing (feedback I assumed) but when I got a replacement (and more expensive cable) everything worked exactly as I'd hoped. You may find if you use it the other way round for headphones and a mic this isn't an issue. I can only speak to my experience and I really hate giving bad reviews. The return and refund went smoothly however.

Reliable product
I've been using trackballs for years and they're all much the same apart from this one. It has a scroll ring which I find very useful. The reason I haven't given it five stars is because it wears out after a while and I end up having to replace it. No idea why this is but it's not just the Kensington trackballs. The nice thing about them is the price and so I don't mind buying a new one every few years.
