An engaging and honest wartime memoir

Engaging and honest memoir of a young infantry subaltern who against very great odds survived more or less continuous front line combat from Normandy to VE Day on the Elbe. More surprising still is that he was a complete novice at fighting and for him it was very much on the job training as he learned to survive in order to keep his platoon alive as best he could. Excellent book
