Bulk Ink Refill System For Epson
Continuous ink supply (CIS) systems are a great thing and can save you a load of money.
But, as I learned, not all CIS systems are created equal.
I bought a CIS system for my Epson printer a while back from vtechplace. It was easy to install and worked great for a little while.
But, then, one day, I found a puddle of black ink that had leaked out of the ink tank.
Being that a relatively large amount of ink had leaked out, it made a large mess and basically ruined the desk it was sitting on.
I inspected the CIS ink tank to see what happened. The ink tank has 6 chambers, each of which holds a different color of ink. Upon closer inspection of the ink tank, I discovered that it was actually 6 single-chamber tanks glued together. This, in itself is not a problem. But, the problem is that the glue used to hold them together apparently weakened, and cracked the chambers over time. This resulted in one or more cracks that allowed the ink to leak out onto the desk.
Although only the black ink leaked, I could see cracks forming in all of the tanks indicating that it was only a matter of time before they would also start leaking.
Since the glue used during the manufacturing of the tanks was the cause of the failure, I felt that Vtechplace should stand behind there product. Even though it was beyond the 30 day warranty period when this happened, I had not use the CIS system more than a few months and had taken good care of it (it was kept in one place and was never moved from the time it was installed).
I wrote vtechplace about the problem. They replied that they did not sell that exact model anymore.
I replied back asking if they would sell me the newer model "at cost" plus shipping.
They replied that they had “2 or 3 used” CIS tanks like mine “lay in around” and would send one to me for $20.
I replied that I didn't want to put money into old, used systems that I knew had a manufacturing defect. And again, I asked them to consider selling me a new CIS at cost to replace the defective one.
I tried several more times to contact them in a courteous manor, but they would not respond other than to say they wouldn't help me.
From my experience, Vtechplace does not stand behind their products. Also, the product I got had a severe manufacturing defect that will probably affect many other customers.

I have had a lot of fun with this unit!
I feel it is a good value for the cost. Doesn't cut as well as I expected on 3/16 inch plywood. Given what I read, I thought it might cut through in one pass, but It takes multiple passes. 3mm plywood easily cuts in a single pass though.
Again, feel it's a good value for the money.
