4/6 Digit Unlimited Apple EFI Firmware Unlock Tool for MacBook Pro iMac Air Mini
This is an excellent product that works exactly as claimed in the supporting documentation supplied with the device. There are 4 dip switches which can be used to change default settings if desired. In practice, most people will use the device without changing any settings and it will work impressively.
In this case, I had already replicated the all-in-one Apple Mac desktop hard disk drive to a solid state drive, and I had tried removing a stick of DRAM. The instructions warn that such changes might have caused the 4 digit pin to be changed to a 6 digit pin, which could have extended the time to unlock the computer from up to 2 days to up to 200 days. I suspect the reason that did not happen was because there was no internet connection and the device was used offline. I recommend using the computer offline for this reason.
In this case, the Unlock Tool found a 4 digit pin in 9 hours. It displayed the pin. It remembered the pin. And the tool can be used again. How wonderful! What more could anyone want?

Title says it all. Sometimes you have to replace the CPU to isolate a problem.
