A fantastic read, will leave you ready and able to take on the 'Diaries'
This book by Claire Tomalin is a great way to start experiencing the life and times of this great man. Samuel Pepys lived at a time when England was going through vast changes. Civil war, religious persecution, plague & the fire of London, all experienced by him. Claire guides you through what is written in his diaries-but please do not expect to be reading exactly what Pepys has to say. This book only gives you an idea of his project, but it is a fantastic read, listing the major people that he knew, his family and his thoughts on them, and passing remarks on the be-heading of Charles I, Cromwell, The Great Fire, numerous Lords, Ladies, Mps as well as the massive upheavals this country was going through. 'The Unequalled Self' is a starter-book. Once you have read this, you will be fully prepared to go on and purchase the diaries. Ms Tomalin gave me the foundations & expectations, preparation & readiness to go on and venture into Pepys world. To me, this publication is like a revision to an exam. You will be-able to read 'The Diaries' & feel that you know what is coming up, but then be delighted to be told (in his own words) precisely what went through his mind. It gives you the confidence & knowledge, will take away a lot of the 'I don't understand this' that you would probably get if you just went ahead first & bought Pepys volumes. The only dislike I had of this book, is that I was expecting a concise version of the diaries, Samuels written thoughts on life. It doesn't provide that, if that is what you want. Like I say though, this book will give you a better understanding to the real thing. Having said that, this book didn't have a review, so I hope what I've listed, will be of some help.
Isabella and the Strange Death of Edward II

    'She-Wolf'?
Having read assessments on Edward II & what to me, seemed like a character assassination on his wife, I decided to look into her life & why she took the actions she did. This book tells you events & situations, powerful barons & a husband who really should have been a county knight. I'm also intrigued by the author's guesswork on what happened with Edward II & his apparent death. A fascinating insight into the medieval period.

A brilliant camera for those wanting to take up photography as a hobby. A+
This is a cracking little camera for those who feel un-easy using a digital camera for the first time. The instructions are easy to understand & once you get to grips with all the settings it has, you can take some extremely good quality photos. The Fujifilm A400 is a nice looking camera too! The minus sides to this, is that I find the flash (taken indoors) makes people look washed out, but by turning that setting off, will leave you with extremely good photographs. Try taking a few pictures with & without the flash, look at the results on the 'display' settings, then made your mind up. You can erase the ones you don't like, freeing up the memory-which, on certain settings will give you more than enough to capture a hen night, wedding day, evening 'do' AND morning after shots all on one card. Download, erase the silly ones, then start all over again! I also think the power button is too small & it can take a moment or so to be ready for the next shot, but for the money you pay for this camera, its all worth it. I've already bought my son this camera & felt confident enough in it to take pictures of his 1st childs' birth-thats how much I can vouch for this camera. I've also had pictures I've taken from this camera of weddings, that have been prefered over the professional pictures! If you really want to start taking up photography, & are unsure where to begin with cameras, I'd fully recommend this as a starter. It's pictures are crisp, its easy to understand and is also cheap. Happy snapping!
