compelling 1914
Extremely well written and compelling - in fact I have finished the book as I was reading it at every opportunity. I was transported back to 1914 and the era of the rich and famous plus a war approaching which would signify a major change in the society of England plus the back-drop to Europe which would reach through to the 1930s.

A man who created beauty and strength to England
The man who rose in society and the extraordinary fetes he achieved. The relationship he had with the 6th Duke of Devonshire is a wonderful thing to read about. The whole essence of the gardens created together with the Crystal Palace and tropical plants coming into England and how the development to retain the temperature they required is extremely interesting. The fact Joseph Paxton was involved in the engineering to assist the Crimean War shows the depth of his innovative work load.
