Wonderful Handel Oratorio
Samson is one of Handel's finest oratorios,
sadly much neglected in performance during recent times.This is a fine recording featuring exciting choruses and a wonderful group of great soloists from the late 1970s.John Shirley-Quirk in particular was outstanding in all ways.He had impeccable phrasing,a highly distinctive style,and excellent tone quality throughout his vocal compass.

Good DVD from a fine,experienced historian.Robert Bartlett captures the bleakness of the Mediaeval Period when life was indeed nasty,brutish and short.
