HARDCASTLE BLACK 9 DRAWER METAL TOP CHEST TOOL STORAGE BOX/BALL BEARING RUNNERS
12 Oct, 2018
Excellent value.
I'm very pleased with this toolbox at its price. It arrived well protected in a strong cardboard package with expanded foam corner packing to isolate it from transit bumps. Hence it emerged unblemished. I had feared that it may be a little flimsy - but it seems very solid on first examination. I wouldn't want it to be much heavier, if I am to be able to lug it about once it is full... Drawer slides and locking mechanism are simple and seem effective. Drawer liners are nothing speial but also do their job adequately. Incidentally, I was pleased to find that the small drawers are ideally sized for storing the typical A5 power tool instruction booklets
Peco Rail Joiners Insulated for code 100 Streamline 00

Shame about the moulding
The rail joiners work well. They are easy to slide on to the rail - much easier than other brands that I've tried. What I don't like is cutting the waste material from the joiner. I don't find it particularly easy to do accurately.
VonHaus Topchest Tool Box

Fair value for a basement price.
I paid £39.99 for this tool chest and consider it fair value for the budget price. However, I would recommend spending more for improved a better product. The drawers are just over 22 cm deep internally. However, when the drawer is opened some of this depth remains hidden by the drawer above. This most affects the top row of three small drawers: just over 7cm (about a third of the drawer depth) remains inside. That significantly restricts access to the drawer.. When fully closed, the the front of the drawers are set back inside the front of the box. (This is necessary to fit the locking bars in front of the drawers.) This has the effect of reducing the "hard to use" space at the back of the lower drawers, from 7cm to 3.5cm. I bought another budget top chest at about the same time (Hardcastle). This is quite similar in many respects but its drawers pull out 2cm further, improving the overhang issue. There is no interlock to prevent all drawers being fully opened at the same time - doing so with loaded drawers could possible topple the chest. (My other budget top chest also lacks an interlock.) The design and fit of the lid is means that if you lean on the front corner of the closed lid (as I did while bending over it), it will try to slide forward, putting strain on the hinges. This is clearly a "no-no" but one I've accidentally repeated several times over a few days. The instruction page with the unit stresses that it is meant for domestic not commercial use and that it should regularly be checked for damage. I think that that accurately represents its build quality. No complaints. I got what I paid for. I shall use it, but wouldn't buy another.
