A page turner just like the cover says!
I found out about this when the author did a talk at the Fortean Times convention (FT being the 'journal of strange phenomena' - Google it if you've never heard of it) on predictions of the end of the world. Wry and knowing and witty and clever.
Anyway, this is a tiny bit Sci-Fi and a bit comedy / parody / satire based around the idea of a cloned Elvis (I don't think I'm giving away the plot here) but in the main it's a rollicking read! It's definitely a page turner, it's quite clever in some ways (it only becomes apparent as you read exactly when it's set for example) and it's got a great plot that leaves you wondering what'll happen next.
The cover etc looks just a little bit cheap to me and one or two of the characters are a bit undeveloped but I guess that's so you can get on with the story with very little flab. There are a couple of 'mm, not sure that could quite happen in real life' moments but then this is a story after all! I loved the ending too which took me by surprise.
If you're at all interested in the way religion and belief happen, particularly the sort of Diana / Elvis contemporary pseudo religious figures then you'll love this. If you're a massive Elvis fan you'll need a sense of humour, though Elvis himself is pretty well respected by the book I'd say. If you're a TV evangelist who needs a stretch limo and a big house etc paid for by your congregation you'll like it a lot less!
But the premise really is this - what would happen if someone cloned Elvis? Buy it and find out.
