Only Progressive Taxes on Financial Wealth Can Reduce Inequity
This is a careful, well substantiated argument that the solution to the principal social problem of the current age -- that is , far-excessive concentration of wealth -- lies with the enactment of a progressively graduated tax on owned wealth. We now have progressive taxes on income, and taxes on real-estate holdings, but we do not have a tax on financial assets. Piketty convincingly argues that a progressive tax on financial assets will produce sufficient funds for programs that will help to level financial playing-fields.
