Apple’s vision of a wireless future is one that is becoming ever more apparent, and their latest offering in the Powerbeats3 showcase all the bells and whistles that can make this vision a reality. I use these everyday for gym use, and whilst they may not suit everyone, they feel comfortable in my ears and do well to limit outside noise to a certain extent. There is some bleed through, but only enough to keep some awareness of your surroundings. These certainly keep the gym music out though.
However, sound quality is where some may feel some angst. Beats carry a well deserved reputation in the audiophile community for leaning heavily on the bass whilst sacrificing the mids and highs. This does happen with the Powerbeats3, but less so compared to previous models. Nevertheless, trying to have an audiophile experience in the gym is a doomed task to begin with, and the bass in these earphones will help in delivering powerful sound as you pound the ground.
It’s the W1 chip that really demonstrates the Powerbeats strength, with the battery lasting 8 hours in my use, and my phone able to demonstrate the power level in the battery section of Notification Centre. This W1 chip also reduces counterfeits, as legitimate Apple devices will automatically sync up to your iPhone, iPad, or Mac with one click and work with the other devices via iCloud synchronisation. Furthermore, the ‘Fast Fuel’ feature ensure that you’re never really caught out, allowing the device to gain a couple of hours of battery life from only 5 minutes of charge.
Overall, a great product but with a singular use - activity. If you’re planning to use these in a multi-use role, such as daily use as well as gym, then these could facilitate, but it’s not what they are really for. You may wish to look into the Beats X for day-to-day use, and keep these for the gym.
