Really Funny - Tongue In Cheek
A great TV comedy from the 60's - 70's. If you like mild tongue in cheek comedy then you will like this DVD of Nearest and Dearest! Very funny and whitty and great one liners. Good clean British fun! Some of the lines will have you in knots of laughter. Hylda Baker plays up her role as one of the main characters Miss Nellie Pledge. She hams it up well and her catchphrase (one of many) 'Oo I must get a little hand put on this watch' is timed just right - pardon the pun. It gives a great look back at early colour telly programmes as well, it should be run on TV now. It would be well worth getting the box set, then you can watch every episode. On this DVD I think it's about 7 half hour long episodes. I don't want to spoil your fun by telling you all the cracks but well worth buying. Hylda Baker also starred in Not On Your Nellie, same vintage but different setting. This time it's not a pickle factory the comedy surrounds but Hylda aka Nellie being landlady of a pub and her character is perfect. NAD in the series I bought was even forward thinking then. If you want good clean British humour and comedy then you will not go wrong with the above titles. So treat yourself to a good laugh. If you want to 'try before you buy' then just search the Internet for keywords as Hylda Baker, Jimmy Jewel, Nearest and Dearest, Not On Your Nellie and you will find clips from the episodes which will give you a taster of what you will get on the dvd's. The best thing about buying the episodes on a DVD there is NO adverts which is great! You don't need to bother about grabbing the remote to fast forward to the next part of the episode. The only reason you will have to touch your remote will be to pause the programme if the phone rings so you don't miss that next one liner from members of the cast! Just ensure you buy a DVD proper not a copy. If you buy a copy it's poor quality will just detract from a great comedy! Enjoy, Ji
