Santa Fe wood caboose
The Walthers Santa Fe caboose is an accurate, crisply molded and well detailed rtr model of a typical ATSF wood caboose. The paint and lettering on my model was sharp and opaque and all the fantastic but often difficult to mount various shaped grab irons are in place and painted white where appropriate. The caboose rides on arch bar trucks making the caboose accurate for pre war Santa Fe modelers. It’s a blank canvas for proprietary Santa Fe details like screens and screen doors and cupola mounted “Hi-Ball” wig-wag signals. There’s a good isometric diagram included to guide you through the trick “puzzle” like disassembly process should you desire to paint the interior and add a figure or two riding in the cupola or on the rear platform. A great model and much cheaper than brass if you can find them or the fine but time consuming wood laser kit from American Model Builders.

Atlas O turnout
Atlas O Scale 2 rail turnouts every bit as good as their HO turnouts. Beautifully made and operate flawlessly.

Great joiner
Atlas is known for bulletproof track systems in many scales, N, HO and O. Though small these joiners do just what they’re supposed to, join two pieces of track. There’s even some bolt head detail on the sides of the joiners, nice touch! With some careful squeezes on fine needle nose pliers, I was able to easily join an Atlas #5 turnout, code 143, to smaller rail size Micro Engineering code 125 flex. Great product.
