Gilgamesh : A New English Version by Stephen Mitchell (2006, Trade Paperback)

Excellent new version

Mitchell's version is not an actual translation but something of a "compilation" of other translations. Nevertheless it's excellent! Highly readable and compelling, it will open the text of this ancient story to everyone. Highly, highly, highly recommended.

Excellent overview of GMark

Juel has deep insights into GMark and does an excellent job articulating them. This particular commentary was written for preachers so, while insightful, is not a difficult read. Some Greek is helpful, but not necessary. It could also be of benefit by lay people who want to see the direction of modern Marcan scholarship as well as a good overview of Mark's themes and theological/literary motifs.
