LCD Through EBAY, yes or no?
Large screen LCD has become an object of desire for many. The cost in the high street although dropping by a considerable amount over the past year is still high to keep many waiting and watching. I purchased and was very pleased by a 32 inch LCD from Aldi but for a particular use I wanted something bigger and thought a 40" ideal. I have purchased on EBAY for some years now and have had my ups and downs, some good deals some not so good, you cannot tell the fraudsters, some are just ordinary people who just think they can dispose of something that is broken or damaged without fully telling the truth, the others make any excuse when they have not got the price they wanted even though there was no reserve and it is not in EBAY interest to penalise them otherwise it would be a lot more work/costs and loss of quite a few parties selling. Now that sounds negative but trust me EBAY is a great system and allows the majority of people to sell things they don't want to others who do want. It is recycling at its best and opens up markets that were once the privy of the bargain hunter or auction house stooge. So knowing all of the above I did not go lightly into purchasing an LCD screen from EBAY and watched the market place to see what prices items were going for and the feedback when these items had been purchased. My choice of supplier then boiled down to a few suppliers mostly trade outlets and one or two individuals. My final choice was auctions4U which I had bought some previous items from including PC's and LCD's. A very fair company whose product seems to sell at a fair price and if you have a query they deal with it promptly. I watched their products (along with other suppliers) and bid on several items keeping my bid to no more than 50% of the purchase price in the high street (as I do with most product not get carried away with the bidding process). I was successful in winning a Sharp Aquos 37 inch LCD which Auction4U stated was tested by switching on and it lit up and had all of the basic parts but no cables! Now as stated I know that it is not in Auctions4U interest to lie about product in fact they are normally quite conservative over their details so I knew that this meant it was probably OK. Since I am based in a technical situation cables to me would not be a problem so happy with this and at a price that was good even for second hand well used! (These items are often ex-demo - unboxed and little used direct from PC World etc. The only down side was the product had to be picked up as it was big and there was no packaging. This is stated in the auction so was not a surprise and easy once you know. The screen, remote and AV box was in excellant condition and when powered up were fine as stated, over a few days cables were sourced from the united states (again via EBAY and taking advantage of the low dollar) not the originals from sharp as they are ridiculously priced but a good quality AV cable from one company and the control cable from another in total adding another 40 GBP to the bill. The system all works fine and so far I am very pleased with the purchase. My experience was good and with the proper background and sourcing I got what I wanted at a price I wanted. My advice don't let your heart rule when bidding, set your limits and stick to them and don't be dissapointed if you dont win just wait for the next one as they always come up again.
