Much safer !
Ideal accessory on icy pavements. A somewhat odd crunching noise when walking, like marching on rice crispies - but a very secure footing on frost, black ice, packed snow. The replaceable studs are a distinct advantage and wear quite slowly, cheap and easy to replace.
For the dog owner who HAS to go out whenever possible, no matter how cold or icy, they're a must. They fit easily and securely onto standard walking boots.

A big improvement on the standard antenna
Works just as well as the standard whip antenna provided with the handset, no noticeable degradation in range or other performance, but much more compact and less prone to damage, particularly with inexperienced users or if the device is dropped.
Well worth the investment.

An invaluable consumable part
If you use boot grips, then these little studs are a necessity. The studs do wear down, but unevenly; by swapping them to different parts of the grip, and installing new ones where necessary, you can walk with confidence on very icy, slippy surfaces, even when being towed at top speed by two very enthusiastic dogs ...
Bought a packet with the set of grips; bought more since. I always make sure I have some in stock at the start of winter.
