Good Vintage Elton John with just one 'Turkey'!
Originally released in 1974 & available, at that time, as a tape only compilation with some of the tracks in mono; I was pleased to find this now available on CD, but slightly disappointed that the original artwork had not been reproduced. Compiled from tracks dated 1969-1973, this is vintage Elton John as best remembered before his 'lifestyle' took it's toll on his musical output. The tracks vary from rocky - 'Rock & Roll Madonna' & 'Whenever You're Ready (We'll Go Steady Again)' through upbeat - 'Jack Rabbit' & 'Screw You' to the melodically poignant 'It's Me That You Need' & 'Skyline Pidgeon' via all points in between. The novelty track 'Ho! Ho! Ho! (Who'd Want To Be A Turkey At Christmas?)' in my opinion, 'grates' after the first couple of listenings & it is only because of the inclusion of this track that I rate it 4/5 not 5/5.
