Pokemon Special Pikachu Edition includes Red-Yello-Blue Perfect Versus Guide #8
    29 Jul, 2017
Nice to have in the collection, but the material itself is amazing too.
The quality of the guide is very pleasant. Everything is neatly laid out, vividly colored with accompanying artwork that makes it a joy just to look through. All of the text and images are sharp and easy to read/see. It also provides very detailed maps. In the context of the games themselves, this guide goes to incredible lengths to make sure you get the most out of it. Exact encounter rates, detailed attack/item descriptions, Pokemon/item locations, etc. The dedicated Pokedex section is particularly impressive; it even lists the levels each will Pokemon learn moves at, as well as what TM/HM moves it can be taught. Compared to other guides, this one actually lists the teams of every single trainer in the game, rather than just the important ones. No route is ever skimmed over. It's not completely perfect though; there are a few errors here and there, and the stats they give for each Pokemon were calculated in some strange way, and as such are way off from what they actually are. Personally I can forgive that stat thing since nobody knew about that stuff all the way back then, and I do appreciate that they put some sort of effort into coming up with their own parameters. The bottom line for me is that this is superior to the Nintendo Power and Prima guides in just about every way. The writing in this guide honestly feels way less "robotic" in comparison to those two, which I find more appealing. So if you are debating between getting one of those three, definitely grab this one. Even if you don't care about the walkthrough content, this one is still the prettiest to look at. You really can't go wrong with this book, and I sure wish I had this one as a kid instead of the Prima one.
    Resident Evil 4 (PC DVD-ROM, 2006) Capcom - Survival Horror - Complete/US Seller

An intriguing relic of Resident Evil 4's history
The original Resident Evil 4 is possibly my favorite game of all time. As such I have made it a point to own as many versions of it as I can; as silly as that sounds. My quest has brought me to finally obtaining the first PC port of Resident Evil 4. To my surprise, the disc worked right away on my Windows 10 computer without any additional hoops to jump through. I simply inserted the disc, went through the installer and then I was playing. The truth on this first PC version of the game is that it is arguably the worst version of the original Resident Evil 4. This is in direct contrast to the later PC version, the Ultimate HD edition, which is possibly the very best. Graphically and performance-wise, it is about on par with the PS2 version if not slightly weaker. It has the same concessions as the PS2 version with a noticeably lower enemy count and lower quality models/textures. That being said, it's still Resident Evil 4. I love the game so much that I still find a lot of charm in these more rustic versions of the game. At the end of the day, the same addictive core gameplay is there. I'm very happy that I finally own this version of the game and even happier that I had no trouble getting it running on a much later version of Windows.
