Flimsy and under powered

Very disappointed with this, it neither makes smoothies very smooth (couldn't cope with strawberries and banana!!) nor blends soup effectively (lumps of cooked carrot left after a lot of blending.) I just don't get it. How has it got such good reviews? I will need to buy another.
