Smooth & creamy

Live in North Bucks, where the water is as hard as nails. With a decent brush this stuff can still be worked into a thick peaky cream whilst holding plenty of water.

Treo 650

UPSIDE Paradoxically, the theoretically outdated operating system. Usable on older, slow machines, it feels stable, sorted & quick on the treo. Over the years a shed-load of small programs have been written for it, many now free or cheap. Recommend Filez (file management), C4 Me (alternative calculator), Adobe Reader for Palm, Googlemaps, MetrO (metro journey planner, many cities), OPera Mini, Currency, SoundRec (Dictaphone), TCPMP (video viewer), Plucker & Weasel (Ebook readers). The thing is also SIM free, so you only pay for it once. In terms of day to day usability it will do the job, albeit with less gloss than many newer handsets. The battery life is good (due to the no thrills operating system) & the battery can quickly be replaced, allowing you to carry a spare (the memory is non- volatile). A physical external 'silent' switch is useful, as is a touch screen which ca be sketched on (try Artelope V vector & Doodle raster programs). It has a physical QWERTY keyboard, which is as good as possible, given the limited space available (find the IPhones touch keyboard all but unusable). DOWNSIDE On the bulky side & doesn't feel beautifully made. Small built in memory- 32Mb if I recall- you'l probably want an SD card for storing data & keep your applications in the main memory. You can use ftp software to store stuff you don't want to carry, remotely. Only GPRS data connection (also bluetooth), no 3G/ HSDPA or WIFI. Feels like an old fashioned dial up connection, but less of a problem than you might think, as who wants to spend more time than necessary surfing on a small screen. Have a Palm WiFi card, but this will not work with the phone. No built in GPS, but works well with bluetooth GPS receivers, doubtless cheaply available from Ebay. The camera is a pretty basic low resolution affair, although it will take low-res movies. No LED flash. If you are after impressive multimedia, look elsewhere- this is more of a work-tool. OVERALL As a day to day machine this does all you could reasonably ask, for buttons.
