Asus USB-AC53 Nano WLAN Wi-Fi USB Networking Adapter

Plugs in, and is recognized, but not working

This desktop unit that it is plugged into sits only 30 feet at most from the wireless router, but this Asus wireless USB unit does not see my router or any nearby wireless connection points. Either I have a defective piece or the configuration process is beyond my understanding.
