Beautiful artwork, let down by the quality of the cards
I knew I had to own the Linestrider tarot deck as soon as I set eyes on the beautiful artwork. Siolo Thompson has designed a gorgeous deck. It's just stunning, the card faces are designed very well, clean and borderless, letting the art speak for itself. It's very refreshing in the sea of dark, gothic style tarot decks to find something so gentle and pretty. However for all my praise of the art, I hesitate in actually recommending this deck. Unfortunately, the quality of the cards are hardly better than a cheap pack of playing cards. They are made of glossy, thin cardboard that feel rather fragile. I've hardly handled the cards at all, yet there are tiny tears in the corners of some cards, where the glossy sides are beginning to separate from each other. I wouldn't dare shuffle this deck, and I imagine that after some use the corners would peel. I suppose it comes down to what you plan to do with them. If you are like me and want them mainly as an art piece to look at occasionally and were similarly entranced by the style, then yes you ought to add them to your collection. If you are a serious practitioner and want to use the cards, you might be better off finding a sturdier made deck. You should also note that the price of these puts them at the higher end for tarot cards. This is especially disappointing as you might think that you are paying for better quality then you actually receive. Yet, I have decks of a similar price that are leagues better made. I even have decks that were much less in price and are less flimsy. It's a shame. On the guide book: I found the information in them to be quite interesting as the author explains the traditional meanings and their own influences in a mostly engaging way. However the format and the layout of the book is terribly uninspiring. It looks as though it were typed up in a generic work processor and sent to press. I only mention this as some decks come with guide books that have clearly been designed with care and are artworks in themselves. This is not one of them. Overall I think my impression of this deck is, stunning content, poorly executed.
