Smart & curious story.
A true story brought to light by excellent historian.
In the early 17th century, a Chinese Catholic man goes mad in Paris under the rich, negligent & self-centered control of his Jesuit handler, a China scholar who's studied ancient & Confucian works to match w/ Catholic teachings for two decades. Ready to present his findings to the Pope, the Jesuit focuses on this anticipated session w/ his voluminous China library, translations & writings, while the poor man he's brought from China to help him sinks into madness & mania, unable to communicate w/ anyone in his own language except the one priest who is buried in dogmatic obsessions.
The book itself was in great shape & came quickly in good pkging. Appreciate it!
