Huge $ saver for Surface buyers
1 of 1 found this helpful Bought it to replace the measly 256gb hard drive in my Surface Pro 8. Everything worked out great in the end, though I ran into a few problems. If you are planning to swap Surface drives, here's what I went through:
At first the surface didn't turn on at all, though I think it was a power adapter issue. A couple force restarts solved it. I also wanted to get rid of Windows 11 and install Windows 10 from a separate boot SSD. That worked out fine, though the keyboard and the touchscreen wouldn't work at all during the re-install (make sure you have wired keyboard/mouse and some kind of a USB to USB-c dock).
Once Windows got installed, the keyboard and touchscreen drivers got downloaded so after one last restart, everything is working great. The hard drive reads as ~950GB, which is fine.
Last and best thing about this SSD - it saves you about $450 from Surface 8 price with 1TB drive. So if you are looking to get a Surface, whether 8 or 9, you can save a lot of money by going with the smallest storage option and replacing your SSD with this one.
