Quality
A bit on the wide side for me, but otherwise a perfect slipper.

Everything as expected, great
Can understand why it's so well reviewed by others. Does it all really. Good to look at (could be improved) and sounds great

Well Priced feature packed Canon S5 IS!
4 of 4 found this helpful I bought this camera on the recommendation of two friends who have sideline businesses in photography and swore Canon and Nikon were the bees knees once you step up a bit in camera specs! Having read reviews on ALL comers in this price category i decided on the Canon as it was top 3 in my short-list anyway and such an established brand.
Once you've used a point and shoot camera with any sort of decent feature list the Canon is equally as easy to find your way around... something i was a little worried about when moving up to a 'bridge' camera. Although i haven't had it long the results i've achieved even when shooting in fully automatic mode have been very pleasing. Particularly impressive for me are the face detection features which give very sharp focus on what the camera intelligently assesses as the focal point of the shot. Colours appear nicely balanced in all environments i've used the camera in, with a really good range of features to compensate for difficult lighting conditions. Quick start up time compared to any camera i've used before and little enough rest time required between photos. So not much to complain about if you choose to go with the Canon S5 IS. One thing i WILL say which was pointed out in a review i'd read, but is something that seems to crop up in alot of the 'super-zooms', is that with the zoom (12x) fully extended the sharpness falls away a bit and there's some purple 'fringing' around elements of the photo.
Personally, i doubt this can be avoided by cameras in this price range and the quality is still easily good enough for me (and i'd guess most folk who just want better photos than your average man in the street without wanting to pay megabucks for them!) Batterys don't last too long with this size camera if you're used to the super-compact type. Maybe 200 shots or so when you're reviewing them in between times. Again this is standard fare for the feature packed larger cameras. All in all, i'm pleased i plumped for this camera, although i imagine the Sony H9 and the Panasonic super zoom from what i've read would be on a par in most aspects. Hopefully i've helped someone with this review. I'd rate the Canon S5 IS as 9/10.
