    Difficult to use, eratic results
When I first used this product I thought it was totally rubbish. But I persevered. The self adhesive tape isn't - it sticks to nothing! Not much use if you're wanting to check the speed of an oily lathe chuck, for example. I initially secured it with double sided tape. But then I had a lightbulb moment! You don't need the tape for shiny metal parts. Simply wrap some matt tape around the chuck (or whatever you're measuring), and leave a small gap for the laser to reflect from. The next problem was, the laser seemed to reflect light all directions (it was hitting my eyes when I was trying to read the output). Another lightbulb moment saw me pull the laser back from the chuck. About 30 cm gave the best results. It still gives lots of erroneous readings, but I can usually get a useable readout at this distance. The other niggle is, the battery saving timeout is too severe. If you move the unit away for just a few seconds, it switches off. Needs to wait a few more seconds. So, is it of use? Yes it is, but you need to be patient and keep at the measurement, hence the three stars.
