Worth every penny
Of course you can find less expensive filters, but in my experience they give a blue cast to your images and not worth the money.
Like most filters these need careful handling as they are easy to scratch.

Good, but not as good as the Canon
I have used two versions of this lens, one on a Pentax K7 (I bought this new) and the other on a Canon 7D (this was used).
The build quality is not as precise as either manufacturers lenses, the one used with the Pentax developed a sticky Macro switch. It would be very difficult to switch over to normal from macro, to the point I never use it for macro. Eventually I bought a Pentax 200mm lens.
Both lenses are optically good and you are being picky if you see a difference, but they are there, especially around the edges at max focal length.
As for value, you can’t knock it, sure the build quality is not the best and it feels lose and clunky in the hand, but in terms of optics you can’t beat it on price
It is not a waste of money if you buy one!
