Excellent hardware & Lapdock good, but let down by old firmware
A fine big screen which is bright, even in sunlight because it has auto-brightness for the screen. The on-off button is combined with a fingerprint scanner (which I don't use) which is towards the back of the fone. There are the standard Motorola four touch buttons on the front which do a pretty good job. The fone is fast and has a dual-core 1GHz processor. RAM is 1Gb, which has been more than adequate for all my needs and is double what you normally get except on high end phones. It docks into a port on my Lapdock which I bought new to run with my Raspberry pi. It automatically boots into a very cut down version of Linux called Webtop, which is hardly more than Firefox. The Lapdock also charges the fone when it's docked. Negative points 1) Android 2.3 which is adequate, but nothing new. OK, I could update it using one of the Cyanogem ROMs but I'd lose the Motoblur stuff 2) No camera button on the side. Using the screen is a real pain to take pictures 3) Webtop could be so much better ie a full-blown Linux distro. It's barely more than a browser at the moment.

    LG KU990i Viewty smartphone
Good points It's a good shape, pretty thin. I like the lock button on the side. The 5MP camera has a classy lens on it and takes superb pictures. It's very well put together and has a solid feel to it. Now the downsides. a) very limited number of planner entries b) the phone has handwriting input as an option (which I used a lot) but why isn't the stylus integral to the phone, rather than attached to it by a cord? c) handwriting recognition is slow d) no way of changing the font sizes, they're always big e) a rather odd menuing system f) no wifi There are better phones in a similar price range.

Compact, cool running and so far hasn't missed a beat.
I picked this up for less than 30 quid to replace my previous Biostar 880 board which had been cooked by a voltage overload from the power supply (yes, that went to the electronics skip, too). Very compact and with all the interfaces I needed, including on-board video. I thought it would be a bit short of slots - I run a batch of serial ports - but so far I'm nowhere near using them all up. The HDMi connector is very handy. OK, the video isn't state of the art, but I don't need it. So far, no glitches. I run a mixture of IDE and SATA drives and - in contrast with the old board, which was limited to 3 - I can set any one of the five drives as the boot drives.
