9 litres basket space is plenty for a family that likes lots of veg
1 of 1 found this helpful The steamer baskets nest inside one another for storage, but unlike in previous electric steamers I have had, this one doesn't allow the baskets to turn upside down and store neatly on top of the base unit, as the base is too wide. This means you need quite a tall storage space to be able to store it in a cupboard or on a shelf.
The baskets have non removable bases, which is an improvement on the older version because that part used to break easily. Overall the unit is well built, looks smart and works well. It has a quiet ping noise to indicate its finished on cooking time - not as loud as previous versions. Its just a pain to put away out of view!

Helpful for occasional hot nights, not week long heatwaves
This is REALLY HEAVY in the 140 x 90cm size! I placed it under the fitted sheet and slept on it through some very hot nights with the room staying close to 30c. For the first hour the coolness was brilliant, actually cool enough to help me drop off to sleep pretty quickly.
But after a couple of hours the gel has heated up by my body heat and is distinctly warm to the touch. despite shifting position across the topper I could feel my skin was clammy where it touched the sheet covered plastic. On the final night of the week long heatwave, I placed the mattress topper under the mattress protector, so now had 2 layers of fabric between me and the gel pad. That helped with the clammy feeling but didn't feel so cool to start with.
After a couple of days/nights of heatwave the room was so continuously warm that the gel never really cooled down sufficiently to have that same cool feel it had on the first use. I guess you could put it in the fridge/ freezer...but the size and weight of it made that seem like a task too far, given I was already wilting. Plus I wasn't at all sure the fridge shelves could take that kind of weight!
