All in all a good value starting point.
I had just bought a Supermicro X8DTE-F dual cpu motherboard on eBay and was lucky to find a pair of these quad-core cpu's for $65 each and of the same "stepping", which means that they left the production line about the same time. Same stepping is desirable when running dual cpu's. They are a bit to the mainstream side, not being all that fast but not to slow either. I read somewhere that the L5520 can use all the functionality of the 5520 chipset (Tylersburg) motherboards although this cpu does not have the "trusted execution technology". There is really nothing to dislike about the L5520 cpu's having got them at such a good price. They perform nicely and gives me fifteen to twenty thousand points daily on folding@home running a cpu client only. I bought some ECC memory to go with the mobo and cpu's and they seem to go along fine.

Alas, it really wasn't working
- Why I bought it: I bought this item on speculation because it was cheap and although it clearly was stated in the auction that it was for parts since it wasn't fully functional I thought I may have more luck with it since I have some skill with Cisco hardware. Sometimes a Cisco switch will not give up any functionality before all old configurations are removed from it. So I went along and did just that and managed to get a new IOS image on it through tftp and all was well I thought. I went on with some basic configuration and when finished I rebooted. But when it came up again, it rebooted endlessly. I got a message stating something like "Switch Unusable". So it looks like it's broken after all. - What I like most about it: The exterior is nice and clean and can be reused if I can find a working system board. Actually I had a good time while trying to outsmart it but alas, it didn't work this time. - What I dislike about it: I find it hard to dislike any Cisco hardware :-) - Whether or not I would buy the product again: Now if I could find a 3550-12t which has been run over by a forklift I might go for it for sake of a working system board.

EVGA Geforce 8800 gtx still going strong...
I think that this graphics card has been reviewed in great detail elsewere on the internet. I bought it to use it with two other geforce 8800 gtx, manufacturers Nvidia and Asus and this card performed nicely with them in SLI cofiguration. I managed to get just under 30fps with furmark with no overclocking. A tech savvy person will probably eke out more performance from them I would think. They run a bit hot, so if you live in a small house as I do they will help heat it during the winter while doing something useful at the same time :-D The most work they did was for Folding@Home. Getting a couple of these for cheap may be a starting point for the home built computer.
