Copper line reel

I put on 450 yards of 30 lb mono and then 300 feet of 45 lb copper. Fit perfect. The only thing I am not sure of is while fighting a 20 lb salmon. I was reluctant to tighten the drag any farther and I was unable to reel the fish in as well as I would have liked, The crank turned but no line was coming into the spool. I may just need to do some type of adjustment. Otherwise I love the retrieve ratio of 6.1 to 1. My big Penn reel had a lower crank ration but more power to reel him in.
