Pretty Poor Power Supply
1 of 1 found this helpful So I got this supply earlier in the day. The packaging was nothing special, but not terrible. Inside the shipping box was an unlabeled black box that was slightly marked, but did not appear to have any important damage. Inside the package was everything that was promised, the supply and the power cord. I tried the supply on a computer from some old parts that I had laying around. At first I could not get it to boot, but then I realized that the power at the end of the SATA power cords on the supply is too low to run the HDD, so I moved the HDD to a closer one and managed to boot. The first time the power was on, my mother board's surge protection kicked in and shutdown the computer. I didn't think much of this because on the next reboot it started fine. When I managed to boot to a desktop I restated and put in an old AMD Saphire card I had laying around to try stress testing. With everything in, I started to run some fractal renderings to try to pull as much power as I could. It was then that I first noticed the smell of melting plastic. I look over to my supply, and notice that despite that my CPU fan roaring, the supply was just sitting there. I touch the supply and notice that it's hot. Really hot. I decided to let it run and see when it burns itself out, but eventually the motherboard's protection activates and the computer shutdown, and not once did the supply fan start up. I'm luck I didn't fry my parts, but now I've learnt my lesson.
TL;DR
Put supply in old computer to test.
Start fractal stress test.
Supply fan never starts up.
Supply starts to get really hot.
Motherboard surge protection shuts computer down.
Realize I could have burnt down my house.
I give it 1 star because the supply was at least quite.
Moral of the story: Don't buy cheap power supplies for anything. It is always worth getting a brand name power supply.

good product good value.
Really great value for a high efficiency psu. No problems with either unit and one has been running continuously since I got it (1 week as of writing). Just to be clear, there are no gpu connections on the unit itself. Though it does have 2 8 pin 12 volt cpu connectors and on 4 pin cpu connector.
