Hantek 6022BE PC-Based USB Digital Storage Oscilloscope 2 Channels 20MHz 48MSa/s
27 Oct, 2015
linux support
The scope lacks a reassuring "power on" lamp. I'd have paid a few more cents for this feature. Anyway, I have a linux installation, and the software is supplied for The Microsoft Windows operating system. Of course I knew this ahead of time. I weakly attempted to run it under wine, and the pretty human interface displays, but I was unable to make the device driver function. I didn't try virtual box or other possibilities. So I installed Hantek6022API from its git repository. This is a python interface. I updated the code to work with python3 and installed the python3 branch. Were I not a programmer, if I didn't enjoy this sort of task I'd probably have jumped on the oscilloscope, because I still had to use a bit of trickery to get traces. However, the scope works, I got my waveforms, and the people answering questions (myself included) at this git repository are responsive though short on time. If you've got linux don't expect an experience like you'd have with one of those old analog Tektronix oscilloscopes. There's more to do than turn it on and clip it into your circuit. With this much work you might consider a Raspberry Pi with an Adafruit Analog to Digital converter instead. I had to get one for my project after I got the Hantek scope and it would have met my needs. I'll close with one other non-linux note. I now have a Windows computer in convenient location. Turns out its cd player does not have a disc-centering post so I cannot use the small radius Hantek software cd with it. Yeah, I could move the disk image onto a usb thumb stick and probably install from there...not likely to happen soon. postscript: I like the oscilloscope more than you'd guess given this review of complaint.

170W Ac Power Adapter Charger & Cord for Lenovo ThinkPad W540 W550 X250 Laptops

CORD DOES NOT FIT
Unuseable. I had to return them because the power cord does not fit into the power supply.
NVIDIA GTX 1060 6GB GDDR5 Gallardo Graphics Card
17 Sep, 2022
Noisy card I might decided to send it back before my month return runs dry.
When active in an already warm room the fan began to buzz, as if unbalanced or contacting where contact shouldn't be. I checked the cabling, it does not interfere. The fans have quieted, as the weather grows cooler, or the problem might be gone. I bought the graphics card to play a Blizzard game and (really!) also for high performance neural network training. The latter I haven't yet tested. Oh! And I was unaware that the GTX 1060 needed a secondary power supply. Mine requires an additional 8 port power connector which was not available from my power supply. I got a "2 by 4 pin to 8 pin" Molex adapter. Which works given that my power supply has a batch of unused cables hanging therefrom. I've seen pictures on line, from NVIDIA, showing this extra power supply as a 6 pin fitting. Also, Tom's Hardware says "don't do this! Many computers burn up as the wires have cross-section too small." I did not apply the advice I learned many years ago. Choose the software first, then get an appropriate computer. For $75 I got an old computer with a 6 multi-thread Ryzen cpu. It came with another case---similar motherboard but no memory or long term storage media, and smaller power supply. Also the person threw in a USB wireless and small graphics card. The USB is too slow for the location I chose, so I bought a PCIE wireless device with antennae. The card improved data transmission rate somewhat, but my laptop computer is still way faster. The GPU worked, but not for CUDA nor for the game. Next I purchased the NVIDIA GTX 1060. Its double width covered the 16 bit slot used by the new radio. I've now had to rearrange my equipment to get suitable speed with the USB WIFI.
