Great black and white photos
Great photos, not just of games being played, as there really are only a handful. This book portrays more the spirit of rugby and of those players going about their lives not on the pitch itself, but at work as adults, school as students, military personnel at war, fans in those stands and terraces, and those players on tour to places near and far. Clubhouse scenes show players in discussion of tactics, or having a fun time over a few pints, or at dances with women followers. A few photos show women post matches, at a time when few women actually played the sport. A few photos might be mis-captioned: one in particular shows an old comic British actor, Arthur Askey, as a referee, leading a team of women rugby players out onto a field, but that photo was from a World War Two era film about British Navy personnel being marooned on a fantasy island populated only by females: "Bees in Paradise." Apart from that mistake and possibly a few others, each photo has a story to tell, not just the caption that is in print. I particularly enjoyed the photos of the old Twickenham, Landsdowne Road, Murryfield, Stade Colombes, and Cardiff Arms Park. Those old structures are no longer with us, replaced by modern stadia either exactly on the same site, or in the case of Colombes, replaced by two other modern stadia since the early 70's, that somehow lack the character of those old grandstands and terraces of rugby worship.

saddle shoes
Great pair of saddle shoes. As close to the old Spalding saddle shoes as possible. Wish Trask would start making them again.
