Unfortunately, after languishing on eBay for months and months we stored the speakers in the attic where temperatures reach in excess of 120 degrees. The speaker diaphragms and crossover components suffered heat damage. Buyer fully understood situation and gracefully allowed me to cancel that sale.

The ONLY decent interpretation of Thurber even if they took some license
Danny Kaye was brilliant at what he did. I have always loved Thurber's story. I have also thought his interpretation of this character was much more real. In 1998 when I heard Mike Myers was going to do a remake, I was very excited. Myers does not have the greatest reputation for working well with others, but I felt he could do justice to the character. I waited several years and read Myers went through a particularly nasty divorce. The next thing I knew he had dropped the option on the film and Ben Stiller had taken over. After a lengthy two year wait I saw what Stiller and his monumental ego did to the story. The film was terrible, the music was terrible and I knew Thurber, Danny Kaye and Sylvia Fine (Kaye's wife and brilliant lyricist) were turning over in their graves. This is one that needs to be restored for blu ray. I did not particularly care for the post war espionage plot and I am not sure Thurber bought into that himself....but I am certain he got quite a hefty paycheck from the film and Kaye does come closer to the integrity of the character than any other version. All the prints of Stiller's film should be burned!

Happy to get quickly diminishing studio release rather than DVD-R release
This is classic Capra. I was so glad to get this version because the newer version is a DVD-R manufactured on demand and not a proper actual studio release. The DVD-R versions seem to be of a poorer quality and are usually not restored. Although I am glad to get some of the rarer films that are being released on DVD-R, they have a ridiculous price range for DVD-R and make me feel as if I am paying more for the copyright than quality of print, which is probably another corporate ploy to make more money due to the fact that the generations behind me have an erroneous belief that simply because we live in a technological age, all music, film, books and other media should be free. For the record, for people like me who collect older films, I feel that quality should be first. I love Criterion prints for this reason. They have even started to rescue some films that are in the public domain like My Man Godfrey. I would love to see them rescue Meet John Doe which is another in the public domain now (unfortunately), which basically means that the copyright was not renewed after 28 years (which was the old law). As far as the seller, they sent it intact and in a timely manner and it was amiable of them to do so. Take my advice and buy the quickly diminishing (going out of print) studio versions. They are vastly superior in quality to the DVD-R Archive collection type releases

Nutley's films with his wife are so wonderful but rarely see release in NTSC
Nutley's films are almost always wonderful. I first saw her in the very funny 1998 Brian Gibson film Still Crazy about an aging rock band getting back together after 20 years....hilarious! Then I saw this. It is heartwarming and very sensual without being vulgar. I also saw a great film called "House of Angels" that was great too. They saw release on VHS but unfortunately DVD manufacturers did not see fit to bring them out of PAL format and into our region NTSC.... Would love to see more of his work. Very good. The same goes for the films of Marleen Gorris from the Netherlands...some make it here and some do not. It is unfortunate because Europe has not yet lost the art of telling a story and de-evolved into the garbage most America has become wherein the rely solely on special effects, sexuality, blowing up things, car chases, and graphic violence. I guess you can expect that from a country that approximately one quarter (because only half of them vote) actually are devoid of brains enough to support a huckster like Donald Trump...That group of people seem to like reality shows, guns, violence, racism, misogyny, xenophobia and all manner of revisionism when it comes to real facts about what is actually going on in the world. Most of them have all the cerebral propensity of lobotomized angleworms and I should not insult the noble angleworm in that manner. It makes me appreciate a thing of beauty like this film even more.
