Rugged and functional netbook with excellent range of features,
1 of 1 found this helpful I bought an Advent 4211 very cheaply second user from a local shop. It was very scruffy indeed but 99% functional so I was happy - if it performed well. I use my machines for fairly basic purposes-
on holiday accessing my music and photos and favourite radio and TV programmes, keeping up to date with news from the Internet, looking at and sending email and using Skype for calls home and such like. Not interested in games. In UK use for CAB work. (Citizens Advice Bureau not taxis!).
Found it worked a treat and was very robust. Loaded Ubuntu as second operating system alongside Windows XP. Noticed I was using it in preference to my laptop perhaps due to excellent screen quality visible well in various light conditions.
But as I said my unit was scruffy. Felt I wanted a nicer one. Bid for several on eBay but eventually got a virtually new MSI Wind U130 at £100. Same machine different badge. Got a real bargain as would have been happy paying full retail price for this. For my quite limited usage cannot be faulted. Came with a trial version of Norton Internet security but opted for free 2012 version of AVG which I had found on the Advent machine and which seems to be as good as anything I have tried. MSI uses Windows 7 Starter and the only downside for me was not being able to change background picture - definitely NOT worth buying an update for this! But playing with Windows 7 has convinced me it is in many ways an advance on XP.
These machines come with Bluetooth so I have ordered a Bluetooth mouse (should a wireless mouse be called a hamster?) so I do not need to have a device plugged into USB when travelling.
My Advent came looking as if the previous owner had played rugby with it before I cleaned it up and bought some cheap secondhand parts to restore it to better condition. Well worth doing this. These are rugged little machines which I anticipate will accompany me on my travels for many years to come and probably often usurp my other machines while at home - I am writing this on one of them.
OK so now for the punchline.
If your usage will be as undemanding as mine do not hesitate. If you need more advanced usage look for further reviews. This appears to be a justly popular machine so you should find plenty.

Robust and versatile travelling companion
One reviewer has mentioned being unable to find £ sign. I suspect the installation advice to use US English caused this as a US keyboard lacks a £ sign! Irritating having a bluetooth light but no bluetooth. You need a different version such as U130 for that. But I agree with the more favourable reviews that a netbook is much more versatile than a larger laptop. I have small hands so the keyboard is fine. 10" screen is large enough for casual use but I can plug in a larger one if needed. I have a plug-in DVD writer which works better than the one incorporated in my larger laptop. I have machines using both Windows XP and 7 Starter and am happy with the operation of both even with 1GB RAM. I open strings of windows with no apparent adverse consequences. All my netbooks are loaded with my preferred free anti-virus software from AVG which does not seem to slow things down as much as some quite costly ones you can buy. It is always worth asking yourself 'is this the fault of the machine or of what I have loaded on it?' Battery life can easily be enhanced by buying a compatible battery with more cells. Expect to pay £30 to £35. And these little machines are robust - no kid gloves required. So far I have refrained from putting one in my aircraft hold luggage though but I would be interested to know if anyone has tried it. The cold could be an issue. MSI can come badged as Advent but they appear to be very similar in design and spec. Importantly peripherals such as your upgraded battery can be used with either.
