Lennon's Liverpool
I loved this film. I was lucky enough to be a little twerp growing up in the Dingle from 1961
onwards (happy days) --- Ringo lived just around the corner on High Park Street --- but all this stuff really took me back. Back to what I DIDN'T know was going on then ( 4 or 5 years previously). We all knew about Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane (obviously) in those days,but never ever imagined what these four boys would become. Growing up with The Beatles,on reflection,was an honour and a privilege // if only we could have realised it at the time.... // but we can't go back there,unfortunately....
Two minor criticisms of this film : I always thought that Mimi lived on Menlove Avenue (and the house depicted doesn't look as though it is.....) and I cannot recall ANY instances of riding on the roofs (rooves???) of buses // surely impossible??? // and there certainly WEREN'T any double-yellow lines on the streets in 1957..........
Although proud to have been born in Barnsley, I am even more proud to share my birthday (albeit 10 years later) with Mr Lennon. No --- perhaps not : Yorkshire first,always, but John was not a bad Scouser.............

A Classic.
I love everything about Thomas Hardy,and am a great fan of Dorset too.
My first encounter with Mr H came in the mid-60s when I took my future wife to see FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD,starring Alan Bates,Terence Stamp and Julie Christie. That led me to buy the novel and,subsequently,the whole canon.
I already had a few Hardy DVDs -- Jude,Tess,Henchard etc. -- but this one was particularly hard to acquire,for some reason. I finally managed to purchase it from a wonderful fella in Spain,and am very pleased I did so.
This is a marvellous interpretation of a Hardy classic,capturing the very essence of Wessex,its inhabitants and customs.
I cannot recommend this film enough. If you get the chance,buy it!
