Generally Pleased
2 of 2 found this helpful This feeder arrived in good time and was easy to assemble. Now they are used to it my hens find it easy to use, although they still seem alarmed whenever it closes. It is quite noisy.
The one serious downside to it is that I had to train the chickens to use it - a process that took three days, although I suppose if I had spent a few hours outside it could have been done in one day.
I used a technique known within ABA as Backward Chaining. I stood behind the feeder with a pot of food, first rewarding each hen that approached me from the front of the feeder, then rewarding each hen that stepped on the platform even if they leapt off immediately, then rewarding them only if they held the lid open for a couple of seconds. etc.
A surprising side effect of the new feeder is a significant increase in egg production. Two of my hens were previously broody - I suppose a consequence of always having food available a few steps away. They no longer sit on the eggs all day, and I suppose they have started to lay again.
Whereas I was getting an average of five eggs a day, it's now almost eight. How much of this is due to the feeder I have no way of telling.

Great flour, but a little pricey.
A little of this in every loaf , maybe 5%, does great things for texture and flavour. I would like to have had an option other than 'Yes' or 'No' for good value, because for me it's borderline. Excellent quality. Good for my bread and family. But, as the title says...
